Born in Los Angeles and based in Western Massachusetts, Samantha "Sam" Gillogly (they/them) began training in violin at age six on the island of Martha's Vineyard. They hold a Bachelor’s in Performance, summa cum laude, from Berklee College of Music in Boston. Sam's notable past positions include Principal Violist of the Boston Civic Symphony, touring member of the Tim Janis Ensemble, and member of the innovative multimedia Youtube Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Michael Tilson-Thomas. Sam also loves the freedom and creativity of improvisation, and fuses their classical training with pop, Celtic, Arabic, Bollywood, Klezmer, and more. They are first violinist and artistic director of the anime/pop-culture quartet Spellbound Strings, as well as a member of social justice folk-rock band Revival.
